Abe is Home Safe and Sound

Our dear friend and co-worker, Abe finally made it home from his almost year deployment in Afghanistan. We were all so happy he made it home safe and sound! He gave Chi a big hug!
The Mandalay Bay hosted a wonderful welcome home ceremony and several big wigs including the Governor and a Senator helped welcome the guys home.

I am sure it has been a long year for Abe and I bet he is glad to be home and able to just relax safely with his family. We will never be able to re-pay him for his sacrifice. I only hope he knows how grateful we are for him and his fellow brothers, how much we missed him, and most of all how grateful we are that he made it back to his family safe and sound.

God Speed Abe!

Today was the Mobilization Ceremony of the 1/221 Calvary which our friend and co-worker, Abe, is a part of. Tomorrow his unit will depart at 4:00 am to Indiana where they will prepare for two months prior to heading over to Afghanistan. But today was a day to celebrate them, their families and their friends.
The ceremony was held at Mandalay Bay and was addressed by the Governor as well as representatives from Congress. The heart wrenching part of the ceremony came when the children of the soldiers were asked to come down to the floor to join their fathers. All I could think about at that point was that both would have to go an entire year in each other's absence. How many missed first steps, learning to ride a bike and first dates would be missed by this group. All I can say is God Bless them for what they do! May God watch over them and bring each back safe and sound!
We will miss you Abe but know we look forward to your safe return and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers until then! And most importantly, thank you!

A Goodbye Get-Together for a Good Man!

Abe is one of my and Charlie's co-worker's. I have had the pleasure of working with him for quite a while and Charlie met him when he started almost two years ago. Charlie and Abe went to Quantico together in January/February 2008 where they attended an almost month long training. They were roomates and came back with some great stories. Unfortunately, Abe is leaving us for approximately a year. He is with the Nevada National Guard and will be deployed to Afghanistan this spring. We will miss him dearly and will keep him close in our prayers!

We had a get-together for the office to wish him farewell. Poor guy was sick as a dog that night as he had just returned from some pretty brutal training that I think wore him out! But he hung in there with the best of him and we all made sure he knew how honored we are to know him, how proud we are of what he is doing and most of all how forward we look to seeing him back in a year.
